EUROLEAGUE BASKETBALL TECH CHALLENGE, POWERED BY LA SALLE PROGRAM BASES

Objectives

The EUROLEAGUE BASKETBALL TECH CHALLENGE, POWERED BY LA SALLE (hereinafter the “Tech Challenge”) is a program addressed to bring together startups and innovators with an ambition of disrupting the sports sector and connect with top global sports organizations, professionals and entrepreneurship experts during an intensive week of mentoring, interaction and concept validation.

With this objective, we are aiming to attract up to ten relevant startups or individuals with innovative technological solutions within the scope of Euroleague Ventures S.A. and its related companies (hereinafter “Euroleague Basketball” or “EB”).

Areas of interest

Projects presented must have technology/solutions at the center and cover at least one of the following areas:

  • Business
    • Digital Ticketing
    • Data management
    • Monetization of assets
  • Marketing & Communication
    • Fan engagement
    • Fan relationship (with a focus on young fans)
  • Smart Arena
    • Activity Trackers
    • Facilities Management
  • Others: a wild-card may be reserved for any projects that do not fall within any of the aforementioned categories listed, but that may still be identified as a potential solution to existing or future challenges.

Organizing companies

Euroleague Basketball is the company responsible for the management and administrative organisation of the professional basketball competitions named Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and 7DAYS EuroCup (the “Competitions”) and for the promotion and development of the commercial activities linked to them.

La Salle is a technological university with a strong entrepreneurial focus and a renowned specialization in sports management.

Technova La Salle is an award winning High Technology incubator. Currently, Technova is the president of the International Association of Scientific Parks (IASP).

The aforementioned companies (altogether referred to as the “Organization”) have the right to modify, amend, update the present Terms and Conditions and any matter related to the Tech Challenge

Requirements to participate

  • startups and/or individuals or group of people (hereinafter the “Applicants”) can register to the Tech Challenge by presenting an innovative business models within the sports sector, nevertheless, startups that have solutions in other markets that could be applied to sports are also welcome.
  • Alignment with selected areas of interest
  • startups or projects in early stages.
  • Full availability for participation during the final stage of Tech Challenge, to be held in Barcelona, Spain, from March 19 to 23, 2018.

How to apply

Visit techchallenge.euroleague.net and complete the application form before February 18, 2018.

Applicants understand and agree that by submitting an application for the Tech Challenge they are not entitled to participate in the Final Stage and/or win awards or to any other form of consideration. Applicants must comply with all these Terms and Conditions and must qualify in accordance with such Terms and Conditions at each stage of the Tech Challenge.

Any application submitted after the date and time specified above will not be accepted, unless otherwise confirmed by and as per discretion of Organization.

Selection process

Once the submission deadline is closed, the Tech Challenge selection committee, who will be integrated EB staff / LS staff / independent experts, will analyse all applications and may:

  • Request to the selected Applicants for more documentation related to the business model or others related to the requirements of the program.
  • In some cases, the Applicants may be asked for a personal interview or skype call.

The Tech Challenge selection committee will shortlist a number of selected projects, who will be contacted by the contact data provided in the application form no later than March 1, 2018.

The selection process is defined by the next criteria:

  • Interest and possible value contribution from/to Euroleague Basketball.
  • Growth potential
  • startup or project stage

The selected startups or projects will be publicly announced no later than March 1, 2018

The Organization will have final saying in all matters related to the selection process of the Tech Challenge.

Tech Challenge 2019

Each of the selected startups, individuals or group of people will be invited to participate in the final stage of the Tech Challenge which will be held in Barcelona on from the 21th to 25th of January 2019 with up to a maximum of two representatives. The Organization of the Tech Challenge will cover for the accommodation, lodging and lunch expenses during the Tech Challenge.

The representatives of the selected startups or projects will have to make their own arrangements to gain travel permits (visa, etc) to other countries. In no circumstances would the Organization be responsible for the selected startups, individuals or group of people’s other costs, including but not limited to those associated with insurance, medical costs, tips, cost of travel to airport; wardrobe, loss or theft of any belongings or similar.

In case of a selected startup or project dropping out, the selection committee has the right to choose the next one in line from the candidates list or leave the spot vacant for the Final Stage.

The Tech Challenge consists in a five (5) days program in which the participants will be involved in:

Conferences from experts in the fields of:

  • Sports sector
    • Experts in sport sector (basketball and other sports or business areas)
    • Relevant positions within the Euroleague company.
    • Mentoring sessions with top industry professionals
  • Startup sector
    • Experts in the dynamics and accelerations of startups.
    • Experienced entrepreneurs
    • Academic experts in the entrepreneurship field.

During said stage Networking sessions between startups, entrepreneurs, Euroleague Basketball experts and professionals, Keynote speakers will be carried out in addition to mentoring sessions, interactive and feedback sessions, team work and/or startups development sessions.

In the last day of the Tech Challenge each startup will present a pitch of the project to the Tech Challenge jury. Awards will be made to the highest performing participants at the sole’s discretion of the Jury, who shall have full discretion in assigning them, including the right of leaving them vacant.

EB may have the right to grant the award to test any of the projects in the environment of its Competitions.

Under no circumstance may the application in the Tech Challenge, the participation in its Final Stage, and/or being granted with any award entail the automatic right to enter into any commercial agreement with the Organization.

Confidentiality and data protection

The Applicants agree that their submitted documents and data may be forwarded to the jury. In addition, the Organization agrees not to redistribute the submitted the projects to third parties without the consent of the participant. This applies both to the duration of the Tech Challenge as well as the period thereafter.

Notwithstanding the above, applicants consent to the publication of the submitted projects admitted to the Tech Challenge. The Organization commits to only publish general information about the applicant (Company name, country, website) as well as the name of the Project and a short description provided by them in the application form.

All documents and data, if not permission is not explicitly refused, will be included in the databases of the Organization for the purpose of possible subsequent contact. In the event of refusal of permission, the data will be deleted after the Tech Challenge.

All personal information submitted to the Tech Challenge will be included in a database property of EV. Such data will be processed by the Organization in accordance with national and international data protection laws including those derived from European General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679. The Applicant can exercise their right of access to modify, cancel and object to the information provided by directly contacting techchallenge@euroleague.net clearly indicating their name, surname, ID number email address and telephone number.

In addition, through the Applicant accepts that EV (by itself or through Euroleague Properties S.A. and/or Euroleague Entertainment and Services S.L.U.) may manage its data for the purposes of separately or jointly promoting their products and services, such as newsletters, commercial information and/or promotions and/or events in relation to the competitions organised by EV.

Intellectual property

Applicants warrant and represent to the Organization that all information including any communications, software, photos, text, video, graphics, music, sounds, images, documents, designs, presentations and other material submitted by the Applicant for the Tech Challenge ("Content") are solely owned by the Applicant or are provided with the express authority of the applicable owner(s) and the use of the Content by the Organization will not infringe upon any other individual or organizational rights (including, without limitation, intellectual and industrial property rights). Applicants shall be completely responsible for handling any infringement or alleged infringement and shall indemnify, defend and hold the Organization or their respective parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, and their respective officers, directors, employees, contractors and agents harmless, from any claims, arising out of or in connection with losses, costs, damages, expenses from infringement or alleged infringement by any Content, or the defense of a claim or any costs payable thereof.

In consideration for participating in the Tech Challenge, the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR, including but not limited to trademark, copyright, design, patent, etc.) of any Content delivered by the Applicant for the Tech Challenge and created before, during the call for entries and/or during the course of the Tech Challenge shall be owned by the Applicants. Applicants hereby grant a non-exclusive, perpetual, royalty-free, worldwide, transferable, irrevocable license to use and display the Content for internal and external uses for marketing, promotional and similar purposes. For the avoidance of doubt, Tech Challenge shall have the right to modify partially or totally the Content to adapt it to specific marketing needs (i.e. duration of video, color of a presentation, format of a document).

Likewise, any IPR generated in the Final Stage of the Tech Challenge will be exclusive property of the Applicant.

Applicants agree to hold harmless the Organization for any project developed in the future that may have similarities to the presented project to the extent that there may be any companies on the market offering similar alternatives provided there is no registered patent or utility model registered on behalf of the Applicant.

Advertising and Publicity

The Projects selected for the Final Stage of the Tech Challenge will be allowed to use the Tech Challenge logo and to announce its participation in any document or media channel.

By entering into the Tech Challenge and/or accepting the awards, companies (collectively) and Applicants (individually) waive all copyrights, rights of publicity and any related rights and consents to Organization right to picture, tape, record or portray him/her as a Tech Challenge participants, and to exhibit this material in any and all media now existing or hereinafter created, including without limitation television, film, internet, radio, print and social media, without any compensation whatsoever for advertising and publicity purposes, except where prohibited by law. The Applicants also consent to the Organization’s right to use Applicants’ names), voices or pictures, or the content of their Entry (collectively, the "Publicity Rights"). The Organization can allow its agencies to exercise/exploit the Publicity Rights in conjunction with the Organization.

Miscellanea

Applicants agree to participate in the Tech Challenge at their own will and acknowledge that the Organization is not in any way obligated or liable for any loss or costs that the Applicants may suffer or incur, and nothing is payable to the Applicants for participating in the Tech Challenge except for coverage of the he Participation in the Final Stage of the Tech Challenge to the selected projects as detailed above.

The Organization cannot and shall not be held accountable or liable for any disruptions / stoppages / interruptions or cancellation of the Tech Challenge. Further, neither the Organization nor its contractors will be held responsible for matters out of their control and for force majeure reasons.

The Organization is not responsible for any malfunction of the applications website site or any late, lost, damaged, misdirected, incomplete, illegible, undeliverable, or destroyed Applications due to system errors, failed, incomplete or garbled computer or other telecommunication transmission malfunctions, hardware or software failures of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, typographical or system/human errors and failures, technical malfunction(s) of any telephone network or lines, cable connections, satellite transmissions, servers or providers, or computer equipment, traffic congestion on the Internet or at the applications website site which may limit an Applicant’s ability to participate.

The Organization reserves the right to, at its sole discretion, withdraw or amend or add to these Terms and Conditions or the rules / format of the Tech Challenge at any time and does not take responsibility for any loss or damage that any Applicant may suffer as a result of participating or attempting to participate in the Tech Challenge being withdrawn or the Terms and Conditions or rules / format being amended.

In the event any Applicant (including winning Applicant) is found to be in violation of any rules of the Tech Challenge or is found to be involved in any form of fraud, misrepresentation, dishonesty, unethical behaviour or alleged infringement until the issue is resolved during the Tech Challenge, the Organization reserves the right to initiate legal proceedings against such Participant and take any other action in its sole discretion including but not limited to recovering any expenses it may have paid or incurred in relation to that Participant.

All information provided in connection with the Tech Challenge is provided "as- is" without warranty of any kind. The Tech Challenge Management makes no representations and disclaims all express, implied, and statutory warranties of any kind to the Applicant and/or any third party including, without limitation, warranties as to accuracy, timelines, completeness, or fitness for any particular purpose.

The Selected use or reproduction in any manner whatsoever the Tech Challenge brand, trademarks or logos to designate or communicate on their Projects without the prior express and written consent from the Organization which may set terms and conditions for such use; and file trademarks, logos and/or corporate names belonging to the Organization and its subsidiaries nor file any trademarks, logos and/or corporate names that would be similar to those belonging to the Organization and its subsidiaries are prohibited and will be subject to legal action.

The Applicant shall hold harmless, defend and indemnify the Organization, and their respective employees, officers, contractors, partners or other persons used by them in relation to this Tech Challenge against any loss, claim, demands, costs, damages, judgments, expenses or liability (including legal costs) arising out of or in connection with any or all claims or alleged claims, that may be brought against, the Organization, or by any third party in connection with the Participants’ involvement in the Tech Challenge, winning the Tech Challenge, awarding or the use or misuse of any award and shall reimburse Organization for any loss, costs, expense, or damage to which said indemnity applies. The Organization shall give the Applicant written notice of any claim or actions covered by this indemnity, and the Applicant shall have the right, at their own expense, to participate in any such action.

The Organization has no obligation to screen an application or any information contained therein in advance, and is not responsible for monitoring applications, to prevent violation of intellectual property ownership rights, or violations of any law, rule or regulation. If the Organization is notified of submissions or materials that allegedly do not conform to these Terms and Conditions, it may investigate the allegation and determine in good faith and in its sole discretion whether to reject an application from the Tech Challenge. The Organization has no liability or responsibility to Applicants or other users of the Web Page for performance or non-performance of the Web Page.
